Currently, I have to channel the largest portion of my time and energies to my Ph.D. program. Luckily for me, I really enjoy this process and am fascinated by all the material I've been studying over the last two and a half years. I began the Ph.D. program at UCSD fall quarter of 2005 and completed the M.A. degree last spring. This year I am continuing to work as a teaching assistant and taking a few classes but mainly I am preparing for my fieldwork in Guatemala. Before the department will permit me to leave for this research project, I need to complete two position papers and a research prospectus. Besides my Ph.D. program, I enjoy writing though I haven't been especially productive since the publication of Brain & Belief (2004). I do my best to keep in shape through some combination of the sports of triathlon (running, biking, swimming) and lifting weights at UCSD. In the past, I much enjoyed martial arts but haven't studied them for a while now. Keeping my dog, Chico, happy and healthy requires a bit of time but is well worth it. He is definitely the more social of the two of us and I am often accosted by strangers when out and about with him who approach me with "Oh, are you Chico's dad?" |
